Brief Reviews was a section of Education Review from 1998 until August, 2010. The original intent was to have a place for the publication of short reviews of books written for an audience of teachers and school administrators. The Brief Reviews Founding Editor was Kate Corby of Michigan State University, who served in that capacity from 1998 through December 2008. She was succeeded in that role by Melissa Cast-Brede of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (cast-brede@edrev.info) in January 2009.

August 2010 represents the final edition of the brief reviews. Over the years, "brief" reviews have sometimes grown longer, and the distinction between the longer scholarly reviews in the main section of the journal and the reviews of book for practitioners has grown harder to justify and raises issues of elitism. Henceforth, all reviews in English will appear in the main section of the journal. Melissa Cast-Brede will serve as Co-Editor for English.
